12 Days of Christmas--Day 3--Christmas book review

Today I have a book review for you! I just recently finished this book, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

A Chrismtas Gift for Rose

Rose turned her back on the man she loves after he assisted the Englisch during WWII--only to discover she's an Englischer herself.
Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family. But as she prepares to marry, she's thrown into confusion when she learns the truth of her birth. She was born Englisch and abandoned when the family moved on in search of work. Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind---Englischers? And was her intended's gift of discovering her birth family given out of love or fear? (description from Amazon)

So, I don't normally read a lot of Amish fiction because a lot of the time they're all classified as romance. Not that I don't like read romance sometimes, but it can get to be too much. This one was a romance, but I decided to try it since it was set around the Great Depression and WWII.
I am so gad I picked it up at our library! I loved it!!  I mean, wow. It was so, so good! The book is only around 145 pages, but the depth to the characters was exceptional and the romance was light and not exactly the entire focus of the book.
Rose is a sweet and endearing character who is easy to relate to and Jonathan is so real. The struggles he lives with after going through the war and then trying to return to the Amish way of life were painted so vividly. The struggles they went through, the way they grew and matured throughout the story was so. . .real. (yep, I used the word again. ;)
And the ending! *squeals* I don't normally fangirl over books. . .but I did over this one. And I stayed up waaayyyy to late to finish it! It was so good! So read it. READ IT!!!!!! :D Seriously, it's like my favorite Christmas book. . .for the moment, at least. ;)

  2. This book sounds amazing!!! I'll definitely have to read it soon. :) Maybe our library has it... I've read lots of Amish fiction, but all I've read by Tricia Goyer is "Where Treetops Glisten". :)

  3. Hmmm...usually I try to steer away from romance, but maybe this will be the exception. ;) I'll have to check it out. :)

    1. Yeah, I think you'd enjoy it, Rebekah. One of the highlights of the book for me was that there was absolutely no kissing! Or anything like it at all. I know it may sounds weird, but it can be really rare to find! The whole book was focused more on the characters's growth throughout the story. Like I said, there was some romance, but it was light. I'm liking Tricia Goyer's books better all the time!
